Congress MLA Irfan Ansari hails Taliban; says people of Afghanistan are happy

Jharkhand Congress MLA Irfan Ansari claimed that Taliban should be praised for chasing away Americans from Afghanistan. According to media reports, speaking after the first day of the monsoon session of the Jharkhand assembly, the Congress leader said American forces were committing atrocities in Afghanistan. You might be seeing the debate, but the truth of the matter is that the Talibanis and people of Afghanistan are happy there, he said and claimed that it was a fight against American forces who were harassing women and children.

He said whatever news is being spread about the situation in Afghanistan is false. “Wherever British and American forces go, they commit atrocities on people. There must be peace in Afghanistan because US troops have left and British forces have been chased away… We don’t have to do anything with what is happening in Afghanistan, Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying.

According to a Hindustan Times report, when asked if his opinion does not amount to supporting Taliban which is been perceived as a terrorist outfit, he said they are a terrorist organisation, “but they have acted as revolutionary in forcing the American occupation.”

Reacting the the claims, the BJP said the MLA’s statements reflect the Talibani mindset of the Congress.
