HAL finally offers Tejas Mk1A to Argentina officially, with 50 component replacements

Chief of state-run aerospace behemoth Hindustan Aeronautics Limited R Madhavan speaking to ” Business-standard” has confirmed that India officially has offered its LCA-Tejas Mk1A Jets to Argentina. Last month, Infodefensa, a South American military news, interviewed Brigadier Xavier Julian Isaac, the chief of the Argentine Air Force where he had confirmed receiving a letter of intention from HAL to Participate in the tender for 12 jets that Argentina is looking to procure.

Madhavan also said that HAL has offered to replace major components like British-supplied Cobham Inflight-refueling Probe, quartz nose cone, and Martin-Baker Ejection seats with other alternatives. In total 50 small and big components will be replaced if Argentina selects LCA-Tejas Mk1A that has been offered to them and also HAL assured that jets will be supplied after due certifications of new equipment and components replaced within the agreed timeframe between two parties at the time of contract.

Madhavan added that the official pricing of the jet will be shared with Argentina by end of this month after considering the cost of re-equipment of 50 components and the supply of alternative systems and components from other suppliers. Argentine Air Force will decide by the “first quarter of next year” which aircraft they will procure. Argentina has received offers for the supply of the JF-17 from China and the MiG-29 and MiG-35 from Russia.

Chinese are offering their JF-17 jets with Locally made Ejection seats rather than Martin-Baker Ejection seats that are presently installed on the jets that are operational with Pakistan and Nigeria. idrw.org was told that American re-export orders for the GE-supplied F-404 engines won’t be an issue since Americans don’t have such a Weapons embargo on them as Argentinean Air Force continues to operate American-made Douglas A-4 Skyhawk subsonic carrier-capable light attack aircraft fleet without any issue.

  1. VERY HAPPY, GOOD SITUATION. I RECALL, WE USED TO IMPORT THE ORDINARY SEWING NEEDLE IN 1947. THOSE WHO HAVE NOTED WILL NOTE THE MAKE OF STEEL GIRDERS OF HOWRAH BRIDGE, DELHI YAMUNA BRIDGE AND WILL NOTE, THEY WERE IMPORTED. MADE IN INDIA AND MAKE IN INDIA, BOTH ARE ACCEPTABLE.

    2. In most of the pre 1955 branches of State Bank of India all safes and double lock steel almirahs were manufactured in Birmingham. India has travelled a long way in manufacturing consumer and hi-tec goods during last 74 years, Warships, nuclear submarine(s) and now fighter planes is a good beginning for Indian technology and industry..

  2. Tejas MK1 is a proven most potent and best light combat aircraft today. Saab gripen is very near competition to Tejas. Other old generation like Mig, JF17 have very poor old generation components make Tejas much ahead of its competition.

    1. Absolutely correct...and above that...Tejas have AESA radar...BVRAAM capability and air to ground attack capability...!!!

Due to its small size and exquisite use of composite materials in its body, Tejas has a very low RCS (Radar Cross Section), for which it is very difficult to track Tejas with any SAM radar...

Another plus point of Tejas is its American General Electric F414 engine...which has a great track record...of accident free operation...and less maintenance ...
