New HAL Plant for LUH Production to go operational in 2022

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)’s upcoming new helicopter-making facility at Tumkuru will start operations by March 2022 as per the latest report prepared by the “The Indian Express”. Tumkuru helicopter facility will have the capacity to produce 30 helicopters annually and eventually will be used when it gets orders for the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH).
Ministry of Defence approved the procurement of 12 LUH from the HAL on November 2 but there are of initial operational configuration and 12 (six for the Indian Army and six for the Indian Air Force) come under the limited series production (LSP) that will be manufactured at the present plant in Bengaluru.
HAL is looking at getting orders for 175 more LUHs before production begins at the new Tumkuru helicopter facility. The LUH is a three-ton class new generation single-engine helicopter indigenously designed and developed by the Rotary Wing Research and Design Centre of HAL with features suitable for operations in the diverse operating conditions unique to India.
