Hindustan Aeronautics Limited-made LCA-Tejas will be offered to Malaysia’s FLIT-LCA program without Israeli-origin Elta ELM-2032 multimode radar, as well any other Israeli systems as most of the systems will be replaced based on customer requirements either with French or Indian system said, an informed source close to idrw.org.

Combat LCA-Tejas (single-seat) has been offered to Royal Malaysian Air Force with Indian-made Uttam AESA Fire Control Radar and French company Thales likely will supply the Head-up display (HUD) unit and Damocles targeting pod with DRDO developed Helmet Mounted Display and Sight (HMDS) also on offer.

Royal Malaysian Air Force is seeking 18 jets to replace its fleet of BAE Systems-made Hawk 108 trainers and Hawk 208 light-attack jets. RMAF wants eight of these platforms to be primarily configured for lead-in-fighter training, while the remaining 10 would be Light Combat Jets. RMAF has plans to procure 36 LCA/FLIT platforms in two phases, with 18 aircraft set to be purchased from 2021 and the rest from 2025.
