OFB Trichy TAR Assault Rifle and TriCa the Carbine version of Trichy Assault Rifle

While the Indian army has been looking for foreign assault rifles like Sig Sauer716 and AK-203 to fulfill its requirement, our paramilitary forces such as CRPF & various state police are has been aggressively acquiring indigenously developed assault rifles such as TAR or Trichy assault rifle, TriCa – the carbine version of TAR and Ishapore Assault Rifle. CRPF have already inducted Trichy Assault Rifle & Ghatak into their service and in February 2022, they became the first user of 7.62X51mm Ishapore Assault Rifle. Recently we have also reported that Joint Venture Protective Carbine (JVPC) has got a major order of 5000 carbines by Delhi Police worth ₹85 crores. 100 Trica carbine has also been ordered by NSG in December 2021. If we talk about TAR, till date OFT has supplied more than 10,000 rifles to Central Armed Police Forces including the BSF, SSB, ITBP & CISF. Police force in several States has also inducted TAR under their modernization scheme. OFT has a production rate of 2000 TAR per month. The trust in the assault rifle by Central Armed Police Forces speaks about its success. While OFT is poised to fulfill an order for 100 units of TriCa compact carbine, States dealing with Naxals were keen on equipping their forces with the compact 7.72x39 mm carbine. OFT, has, so far, completed deliveries for 30,000 Tiruchi Assault Rifle (TAR) and will be completing the delivery of 42,000 to 45,000 units during this fiscal out of the orders for 78,000 weapons placed collectively by the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, and police forces in States.
Recent orders of TAR & TriCa Now, if we look at the unclassified report released recently by the Department of Defence production, CRPF has given massive order of 10,000 TAR worth ₹76.48 crore to Advance Weapons & Equipment India Limited(AWEIL) on 12th February.
