IgMp has
earlier reported last year, that the Indian Army will be upgrading its older
version T-90 tanks to current standard, it was in talks with Russian firms for
so.
Now reports have emerged that the Indian Army may upgrade 957 T-90S tanks with a new indigenous Thermal Imager based Commander’s site jointly developed by DRDO and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
Due to Western sanctions on Russian defense firms, the Indian Army is now looking at new ways to incorporate more Indian systems like Auxiliary Power Unit as well as an alternative engine in which the 1,500 horsepower (HP) engine developed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) and the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) might emerge as the main contender.
The Indian Army also plans to include a eight kilometers range third generation canon launched missile, a new turret weapon station with an upgraded 125 millimeters gun and highly automated digital fire control system.
