India and Egypt
held a series of high-level engagements during which India has offered to
create production facilities of Tejas LIFT (Lead-In Fighter Trainer) variant
and helicopters in Egypt as it plans to retire 100 Chinese-made K-80 trainers.
The Egyptian Air Force Chief will also visit India in the next few days during which Hindustan Aeronautics will showcase its expertise in manufacturing as well as maintenance of aircraft.
The Egyptian Air Force has a requirement of 70 aircraft with a focus on local production and technology transfer, besides the Tejas LIFT India has offered to establish joint production facilities of Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH).
Officials have said that there is a significant demand in the Middle East and North Africa region for such platforms and Egypt will be a good base for Indian made defense platforms.
India's Tejas Mk 1A has also emerged as the front runner for a Malaysian requirement of 18 Light Combat Aircraft for which India has offered a package deal that includes maintenance and spares for Malaysia's Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets.
