Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has started testing an indigenous Infra-Red Search and Tracking (IRST) system developed for the Tejas Mark 2 fighter jet.
The Project Manager of the Tejas Mark 2 program has said that the design of the IRST will be similar to the Pirate IRST system equipped on the Eurofighter Typhoon and it will be an internally mounted Infra-Red Search and Tracking (IRST) sensor with a range of over 100 kilometers that is capable to detect and track multiple targets with a large field of view and is also equipped to handle air-to-air and air-to-ground target tracking.
The IRST of Tejas Mk2 will use Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based supercomputer for running search and tracking algorithms and will have the capability to detect stealth aircraft.
