US in talks with India for local production of M982 Excalibur artillery shells

The United States and India are in talks for local production rights of its 155 millimeters and M982 Excalibur artillery rounds that were procured by the Indian Army in 2019 for the M-777 ultra-light howitzers.

The M982 Excalibur can also be used from the K9-vajra self-propelled howitzer, Dhanush Howitzer, and Bofors gun.

The M982 Excalibur shell is guided by Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) and is capable of hitting targets located up to 57 kilometers.
