The Indian Army recently introduced its new UAV-Launched Precision Guided Munition (ULPGM), developed by Adani Defence. This represents a major step forward in India's defense manufacturing capabilities.

The ULPGM is the first in a planned series of precision-guided munitions specifically designed for deployment by drones. It has an effective range of 2-6 kilometers, weighs between 5-8.5 kilograms, and carries a 2-kilogram warhead. The munition is equipped with Imaging Infrared (IIR) seekers and kinetic impact capabilities, making it adaptable for a wide range of tactical operations.

One of the standout features of the ULPGM is its jet vane system, which greatly enhances its maneuverability and precision. Combined with its light weight, this makes the munition especially effective in anti-personnel, anti-bunker, and anti-armor missions.

The ULPGM provides the Indian Army with a low-cost, standoff capability, enabling drones to deliver accurate strikes from a safe distance. This reduces the risk to personnel and increases operational effectiveness.

Future iterations of the ULPGM are expected to include a missile-aided version with a 10-kilogram warhead, as well as a variant capable of deploying sub-munitions similar to cluster bombs. These upgrades will further expand the munition's range of uses and effectiveness.

The deployment of the ULPGM is a clear indicator of India’s advancing self-sufficiency in defense production. It not only enhances the military’s capabilities but also offers opportunities for growth in domestic industry and technology development.
