PM Modi and Spanish PM Sanchez to hold bilateral meeting, inaugurate TASL-Airbus unit for C-295 manufacturing
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a “vital bilateral meeting” with Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Vadodara on October 28, said a statement from the Gujarat government on Monday.
During their visit, Modi and Sanchez are also scheduled to inaugurate the ambitious TATA-Airbus TATA Advanced System Ltd. (TASL) manufacturing facility of the C-295 transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
According to the government statement, the airbus project in Vadodara is a ‘Make in India’ initiative, designed to promote indigenous aircraft manufacturing. “The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for this project two years ago on October 30, 2022, in Vadodara, and (October 28) marks its official inauguration. This reflects the PM’s commitment that the same government that lays the foundation stone is the one that inaugurates the project. The Tata Airbus project will produce transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force, signalling a new era in aviation within the defence sector,” said the statement.
The state government said that Modi and Sánchez will arrive for the Airbus inauguration, which is “a significant project focused on enhancing the country’s economic development”.
Providing details about their meeting and security arrangements, the government statement said: “The world will witness the strong bilateral relations between India and Spain. A vital bilateral meeting between the two Prime Ministers is taking place in Vadodara, attracting global attention. Consequently, special security measures are being implemented throughout the city, with strict arrangements enforced by police and local officials to ensure safety and prevent any incidents.”
Modi and Sanchez are scheduled to hold a roadshow of 2.5 km before proceeding to the iconic Lukshmi Vilas Palace, where the two countries are likely to sign an MoU in the Durbar Hall. The state government has deployed 60 officers, including five deputy collectors from outside Vadodara district to help the administration.
The government release underlined that the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) was “tirelessly” working to repair damages left behind by the floods in view of the visit of the dignitaries. The statement said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez will visit Vadodara on October 28. The (VMC) is making extensive preparations for the arrival of both dignitaries. The corporation is cleaning the main roads, dividers, footpaths, and public areas of the city while also working swiftly on road repairs”.
“Initiatives such as painting and tree plantation are underway to enhance the beauty of the city roads. In response to the recent floods, the VMC is working tirelessly to repair damage in key areas of the city. Urgent repairs for mudslides and roads affected by the floods are being prioritised,” said the government statement.
The prominent landmarks in the city, including Maharaja Sayajirao University, Kirti Mandir, Nyay Mandir, and Lukshmi Vilas Palace, are being decorated with special and attractive lighting, along with fresh coats of paint and graffiti artwork is being done on the walls along both sides of the main roads, read the statement.
Modi likely to visit Ekta Nagar
PM Modi is also scheduled to visit Ekta Nagar (formerly Kevadia) in Narmada district, which is home to the Statue of Unity (SoU), on October 30 and 31. While October 31 marks the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, celebrated on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on October 30, Modi will inaugurate development works in Ekta Nagar, including a 1.5-km walkway from the parking area to the SoU and a trauma centre in Kevadia.
The Narmada district administration officials said that PM Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone of the much-delayed Museum of Royal Kingdoms which is expected to showcase the history of 562 princely states that signed the treaty of accession with the Union of India at the time of the Partition.
