2+2 : India and US declare Support for two-state solution

In a recent ministerial meeting between India and the United States on November 10, India once again emphasized the necessity of a two-state solution to resolve the ongoing Israel-Palestinian crisis. The meeting, which involved the Foreign and Defence Ministers of both nations, primarily focused on the Hamas attack on Israel that took place on October 7.

The ministers called for the “immediate release” of those being held hostage in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Interestingly, there was no explicit mention of a ceasefire. Instead, both India and the U.S. advocated for “humanitarian pauses” in the conflict, indicating a nuanced approach to the crisis.

The joint statement issued after the ‘2+2’ ministerial meeting read, “Noting horrific terrorist attacks against Israel, the Ministers reiterated that India and the United States stand with Israel against terrorism and called for adherence to international humanitarian law, including with regard to the protection of civilians. They called for the immediate release of all remaining hostages.”

This stance underscores the commitment of both India and the U.S. to uphold international law and protect civilian lives amidst the conflict. It also highlights their shared position against terrorism and their support for Israel in these challenging times.
