DRDO-L&T Light Tank prototype building almost close to completion; Roll out in August
The Head of L&T defence has said that the light tank prototype is being developed at its armored systems complex in Gujarat and the prototype has reached an advanced stage of development, the rollout is expected in August 2023 potentially before independence day and will immediately start trials in the ladakh sector.
L&T will build one regiment comprising of 59 light tanks while for the contract for remaining five regiments or 295 light tanks L&T will have to compete with other industry players.
The Indian Army may increase the requirement of Light tank up to 500 in the future. L&T with its know-how of South Korean K9 Vajra-T Self-Propelled Howitzer manufacturing under technology transfer, leading the race to build the Light Tank for the Indian Army than other competitors.
