Vulnerability of Russian MBTs in Ukraine war opens eyes of Indian Army, fast tracks FRCV program after Light Tank development
While the Indian Army has prioritized the development of a light tank for high-altitude border regions, the vulnerability of Russian main battle tanks in Ukraine has captured the attention of Indian Army Top Brass and the Army wants to pursue the Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) program on a priority basis. Under this program, Indian Army plans to procure at least 1,770 such vehicles.
The FRCV will integrate advancements in asymmetric technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and see-through armor and will have long detection and identification ranges with thermal night vision and lock-on target capabilities as well as smoke discharges with anti-thermal and anti-laser capabilities.
The Indian Army is also seeking an automated loading system that requires minimal intervention and engagement time as well as soft kill systems and other counter measures including laser warning systems and RF sensors. IgMp
