Indian Army showcases Newly inducted Mahindra’s Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle

In a significant development, the Indian armed forces have welcomed two formidable additions to their special vehicle fleet: the Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV) and the All-Terrain Vehicle. These cutting-edge special vehicles, designed and developed by Mahindra Defence Systems Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, are poised to play a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of the Indian military and paramilitary forces.

Mahindra Defence Systems Limited has a well-earned reputation as a provider of armored solutions for the military and paramilitary forces. The recent induction of these specialized vehicles into the Indian armed forces is a testament to their commitment to innovation and excellence in defense technology.

The Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV) is designed to be a modular-type vehicle, offering unparalleled versatility and adaptability to meet a wide range of operational requirements. This flexibility is a key feature, allowing the ALSV to be tailored to various roles as needed by the armed forces.

Multifaceted Roles

The Mahindra ALSV can seamlessly transition between multiple operational roles, making it an invaluable asset for the armed forces:

  1. Armoured Protection: In security missions, the ALSV serves as an armoured protection vehicle, providing critical cover for personnel engaged in high-risk operations.
  2. Light Mortar 81/82mm Vehicle: The vehicle can be transformed into a light mortar carrier, equipped to deploy 81/82mm mortars in the field.
  3. Armoured Ambulance: When medical support is needed in challenging conditions, the ALSV can serve as a light armoured ambulance, ensuring the safe transportation of wounded soldiers.
  4. Ammunition Carrier: It can be configured as an ammunition carrier, facilitating the transport of light weapons and vital supplies.

These specialized vehicles are equipped with anti-tank guided missiles and automated grenade launchers, enhancing their firepower and combat capabilities. Furthermore, they can serve as personal carriers, efficiently transporting ammunition, supplies, and quick response teams to critical locations.

The ALSV boasts impressive specifications, with a 4-seater configuration and a remarkable payload capacity of 1,600 kilograms. Its ballistic protection can withstand 7.62mm ammunition, ensuring the safety of occupants in high-risk situations. The vehicle is equipped with a powerful 3.2-liter multi-fuel diesel engine, a 4×4 drivetrain, and front/rear differential locks, delivering a robust power output of 212bhp. Its automatic transmission allows the ALSV to accelerate from 0 to 60km/h in just 12 seconds, and it can achieve a top speed of 120km/h.
