Ministry of Defence issues RFP for procurement of 220 Air Defence Guns and 1 lakh+ ammo
German company Rheinmetall designed MANTIS / SkyShield Air Defence Gun

The Ministry of Defense has released a Request For Proposal (RFP) for the procurement of 220 Air Defense Guns and 37,440 programmable advanced ammunition and over 1 lakh rounds of standard ammunition.

The Air Defense Gun must have a cyclic rate of fire of at least 200 rounds per minute and must be effective against air targets at 4 kilometers range and up to 2.5 kilometers altitude.

It must feature Auto Ammunition Loading and Handling system, Fire Control System, Thermal Imaging Site, Target tracking capability, Fire Control computer with software.

IgMp had reported last year that the Indian Armed Forces had initiated a process to procure 220 Air Defense Guns and the MoD issued RFP then and extended it several times as German company Rheinmetall was setting up a joint venture with an Indian firm for their SkyShield Air Defense Gun system and those guns will be manufactured in India under technology transfer.
