Vice Chief of Indian Army visits AVNL and CVRDE to oversee T-90 Mk-III and Arjun MBT developments

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, the Vice Chief of the Indian Army Staff (VCOAS), recently conducted a comprehensive inspection at the Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) and the Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) in Avadi. This visit underscored the Indian Armyโ€™s steadfast dedication to achieving self-sufficiency in the development and maintenance of its armored vehicle fleet.

During the visit, Lt Gen Dwivedi received detailed briefings on the latest advancements in armored vehicle technologies. Special focus was given to the ongoing development of the Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun and the upgraded variant of the T-90S Bhishma tank, known as the T-90 Mk-III.

Discussions revolved around strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing self-reliance in the maintenance and modernization of armored vehicles. This encompasses the integration of cutting-edge technologies for the repair and overhaul of vital components, such as the power pack of the MBT Arjun.

The VCOAS thoroughly reviewed AVNL and CVRDEโ€™s endeavors to localize various components and subsystems across all armored vehicle platforms utilized by the Indian Army. Emphasis was placed on reducing dependency on foreign imports and fostering indigenous production capabilities.

Lt Gen Dwivedi lauded the organizations for their commendable efforts in driving transformational changes in the development and provision of proficient armored vehicles to the Indian Army. He stressed the significance of maintaining an unwavering commitment to excellence in the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair processes of tanks and other armored fighting vehicles.

The visit of the Vice Chief of the Indian Army Staff to AVNL and CVRDE signifies a pivotal step towards bolstering Indiaโ€™s capabilities in armored vehicle technology. Through relentless pursuit of self-sufficiency and innovation, the Indian Army remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the nationโ€™s security interests.
