Adani Defence and Aerospace, in partnership with Elbit Systems, is set to meet the Indian Army’s urgent requirement for 800 Mounted Gun Systems (MGS). Adani Defence officials have confirmed their plans to offer a Mounted Gun System (MGS) based on Elbit’s ATMOS 155mm/52 calibre truck-mounted howitzer, with Transfer of Technology (ToT) levels that will lead to local manufacturing.
ATMOS 155mm/52 Calibre Truck-Mounted Howitzer
The ATMOS, as per Elbit Systems, can be mounted on various high-mobility 6×6 or 8×8 truck chassis, customized to meet customer preferences. Its protected cabin can accommodate a crew of 2-6 personnel, including a driver, commander, and additional crewmembers, along with their equipment and armaments. Notably, the cabin is equipped with an advanced air conditioning system capable of regulating temperature for optimal crew comfort and operational efficiency.
Advanced Features and Technologies
The ATMOS integrates cutting-edge technologies such as Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), Moving Map Displays (MVR), ballistic computers, Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems, as well as hydraulics and electrical drives. This innovative approach ensures enhanced precision, firepower, and battlefield situational awareness, augmenting the Indian Army’s combat capabilities.
Competitive Landscape
Adani’s potential offering of the ATMOS 155mm/52 calibre truck-mounted howitzer will set the stage for a compelling competition with the DRDO-Kalyani developed 155mm/52 calibre truck-mounted howitzer, based on the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS).
Adani also intends to offer the Towed Variant of the ATMOS for the upcoming competition in the Army’s Towed Gun System (TGS) tender for 400 units. The competition between the ATMOS-based Mounted Gun System and the DRDO-Kalyani offering is expected to be fierce, highlighting the competition between local and imported technology.
