Airbus and Indian Suppliers Anticipate Significant Job Growth

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, in collaboration with its suppliers, expects to see a 50% increase in the number of jobs it supports in India over the next two years. Currently, Airbus and its supply chain contribute to nearly 10,000 jobs in India, a figure that is projected to rise to approximately 15,000 by 2025.

Airbus has recently inked new contracts with Indian companies such as Aequs, Dynamatic, Gardner, and Mahindra Aerospace. These contracts involve the manufacturing of components for commercial aircraft, including airframe and wing parts for Airbus’ A320neo, A330neo, and A350 jets. While Airbus did not disclose the specific contract sizes, these agreements are set to expand the existing volumes of components and services Airbus procures from India, which currently amounts to $750 million annually.

Airbus views India not just as a market but as a strategic resource hub for both human capital and aerospace components and services. The “Make in India” initiative is central to Airbus’ strategy in the country, aiming to create an integrated industrial ecosystem that positions India as a prominent player in aerospace manufacturing.

In March, Airbus awarded a contract to Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) to manufacture cargo doors for A320neo family planes. These doors are produced using advanced robotics and automation technology at a new facility in Hyderabad, with each shipset comprising two cargo doors and one bulk cargo door.

Furthermore, in September, Airbus signed a memorandum of understanding with Vadodara-based Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to collaborate on the development of academic curricula, faculty, industrial experience, training, scholarships, and international institute partnerships. The aim of this partnership is to deepen students’ understanding of scientific, technological, and management topics related to the aerospace sector through research, teaching, and training initiatives. Airbus continues to strengthen its presence in India and further its commitment to the country’s aerospace industry.
