Another MH-60R Seahawk helicopter delivered successfully to Indian Navy

The delivery of another MH-60R Seahawk helicopter has been confirmed by Lockheed Martin India, enhancing the Indian Navy’s capacity to fight against submarines and surface-to-air threats. With this addition, the Indian Navy’s fleet now has six operational Seahawk helicopters, which is a major step in the its continuing modernization programme.

In 2021, the first three MH-60Rs were delivered; two more were delivered in the middle of 2023. These purchases are a part of a bigger agreement between India and the US that surfaced in February 2020 and involved the purchase of 24 helicopters for USD 2.6 billion. Delivery of the remaining helicopters is expected to occur by 2025.

The MH-60R Seahawk is a versatile multirole helicopter recognised for its advanced capabilities. It is outfitted with powerful sensors for undersea and surface threat detection, including sonar and radar. It also has Hellfire missiles, torpedoes, and machine guns, making it a deadly weapon in maritime warfare.

The deployment of these helicopters by the Indian Navy demonstrates its commitment to improving its maritime defence capabilities. The versatility of the Seahawk to operate from frigates, destroyers, and aircraft carriers gives the Navy a significant advantage in protecting its wide coastline and strategic interests in the Indian Ocean region.
