In a prestigious ceremony held at Dinjan Military Station, the Indian Army has entered into a significant tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for two crucial projects: Project DARPAN (Dao and Rising Sun Preparatory Academy in NE) and Project SPEARS (Selection & Preparation for Employment in the Army by Rising Sun). The signatories to this MoU include the National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation (NIEDO), Coal India Limited, and Oil India Limited. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Bimal Borah, Minister for Industries & Commerce and Public Enterprises in Assam.
This MoU, jointly signed by the Indian Army, NIEDO, Oil India Ltd, and Coal India Ltd, has a noble aim – to provide value-based education to underprivileged children in Upper Assam. Through these initiatives, the Indian Army envisions establishing a significant educational center in the Dibrugarh district. This center will prepare children from marginalized sections of society for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Combined Defence Services (CDS) entrance examinations.
The projects extend a helping hand by offering free-of-cost residential coaching, including lodging and meals, to approximately 120 deserving children over the course of one year. NIEDO and GAPS (Georgian Academy for Professional Studies) will play pivotal roles by providing academic guidance, a structured syllabus, and full-time qualified faculty with extensive experience to train students for NDA and CDS exams.
The Indian defence forces have always embodied values of honor and integrity, considering it more of a ‘way of life’ than merely a job. The vibrant youth of the North Eastern part of India are eager to contribute to nation-building through careers in the armed forces. However, due to the lack of coaching facilities, infrastructure, and proper guidance, their participation in the ‘Profession of Arms’ has been limited. In light of these constraints, Project DARPAN and Project SPEARS were conceived.
These innovative initiatives aim to provide specialized training from experienced faculty members, ensuring that the children are well-prepared and equipped to successfully navigate the entire selection process, including written examinations and personal interviews. The projects will be carried out under the auspices of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, overseen by the Dao Division in Dibrugarh, representing a significant step forward in nurturing and guiding aspiring young minds towards fulfilling careers in the defense sector.
