The delivery of the highly anticipated BrahMos supersonic missiles to the Philippines is still on track, according to Indian Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran. While the exact delivery date was not disclosed, it was previously reported that the missiles would arrive in December.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Ambassador Kumaran affirmed, “We are broadly on track.” He also pointed to the significance of these supersonic missiles for the Philippine military, echoing former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana’s sentiments about their importance.
Delfin Lorenzana had signed a $375 million agreement with BrahMos Aerospace in 2022, securing three batteries of BrahMos anti-ship missiles for the Philippine military. Lorenzana emphasized the critical role these missiles would play in protecting the Philippines’ territorial integrity and national interests.
The Indian ambassador highlighted that the delivery of the BrahMos missile would significantly enhance the defense capabilities of the Philippines, especially given the current regional security scenarios.
