HFCL Plans To Produce Radars For The DefTech Industry In India

Homegrown telecom equipment manufacturer HFCL (Formerly Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited) said that it has increased its strategic focus towards radar technology, encouraged by the product innovation and development from its subsidiary Raddef.
The company said in a stock exchange filing that it has developed a series of surveillance radars using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology, which is well-known for its high accuracy, low power consumption, and interference resistance. Raddef Private Limited is a subsidiary of HFCL that specialises in radars and RF solutions.

FMCW radars have several uses, including navigation systems, weather forecasting, and border security. They are crucial for many modern uses because of their simultaneous measurement of velocity and distance. These radars are made to be flexible and portable so they can be used in a variety of difficult settings.

The company is also making progress in the creation of drone detecting radar, an essential part of modern drone detection systems.

According to the company, it conducts research on a range of radar technologies, such as Threat Emulators, LTE-based passive radars, fog and foliage penetration radars, avalanche detection radars, coastal surveillance radars, altimeters, and more. These systems address the functional requirements of various industries and fields.

By 2030, the surveillance radar market is expected to reach $12 billion globally, up from $6.87 billion at now.

“We embark on a transformative journey, driven by a vision to fortify national security and innovation. Our foray into ground surveillance radars, drone detection radars, and a spectrum of advanced radar solutions reflects our commitment to empowering defence and security forces with cutting-edge technology,” said Mahendra Nahata, Managing Director of HFCL.

“These radars, with their diverse applications across sectors, symbolise our dedication to safeguarding the present and shaping a secure future for our nation. Our strategic investment of 90% in Raddef Private Limited underscores HFCL’s commitment to fostering Make-in-India technology, solidifying our position as a trusted partner in the defence communication domain,” he added.

India is the third-highest military spender in the world, after the United States and China, with 3.7% of global military spending. According to the company, this puts HFCL in a strong position for big prospects in the Indian defence technology market.

In keeping with the government’s “Made in India” initiative, HFCL stated that it hopes to use its own defence innovations in technology to help modernise the nation’s military capabilities.
