India is considering providing additional military assistance to its strategic ally in the Caucasus, Armenia, according to a report by the Economic Times. The proposed shipment from India aims to include military equipment to bolster Armenia’s deterrence capabilities. This move comes in the midst of Armenia’s tense situation involving Azerbaijan, which receives support from Pakistan and Turkey.
In a previous shipment, India had supplied Armenia with a variety of military equipment, including Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, anti-tank missiles, rockets, and ammunition. Notably, this supply route passed through Iran, a nation with longstanding historical ties to Armenia, which drew objections from Azerbaijan. Earlier this year, India, Iran, and Armenia had established a trilateral partnership to explore the transport corridor, further strengthening their regional ties.
As Armenia faces challenges in the South Caucasus region, India’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities underscores the importance of their strategic alliance. This additional military aid signifies India’s support for Armenia during a complex geopolitical situation in the region.
