The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to unveil its new ensign at the Air Force Day parade in Prayagraj on October 8, marking a significant change after 72 years. This follows the Indian Navy’s decision to remove the Cross of St George from its flag last year, shedding a colonial-era vestige.
The unveiling of the new ensign is expected to be carried out by Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari, in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, and Air Marshal RGK Kapoor, the General Officer in Commanding of Central Air Command (CAC).
A team of air warriors and IAF officers will carry the new ensign during the parade, and a Mi-17v5 helicopter will fly low, showcasing the new Air Force ensign.
The present Air Force ensign, which has been in use since 1951, is blue in color and includes the National Flag in the first quadrant, along with a roundel featuring the colors of the National Flag (saffron, white, and green) in the center.
