Indian Navy embarking on a project to built indigenous Swimmer Delivery Vehicle (SDV)

The Indian Navy is starting a project to design and produce a locally produced manned submersible in partnership with a public sector enterprise.

The highly-skilled Marine Commandos (MARCOS) will covertly move themselves and their equipment for critical special operations missions using this swimmer delivery vehicle (SDV).

These cutting-edge submersibles will be a great advantage in surreptitious undersea operations, and the program’s ambitious goal is to acquire at least twelve of them.

To improve their offensive power, these SDVs will also be equipped with a single lightweight torpedo made in the India.

The manned submersibles are intended to provide the MARCOS with an unparalleled level of operational flexibility and reach. They may be launched from warships and specially modified submarines that are outfitted with dry deck shelters.

Although the program’s specifics are still under wraps, insiders close to the initiative have revealed that basic testing is anticipated to start in the next 12 to 18 months.

The ability to deploy MARCOS stealthily and discreetly utilising these submersibles will surely improve the Navy’s capability to undertake a broader range of special operations, such as surveillance, sabotage, and hostage rescue.

When this project is finished, it will significantly increase the Indian Navy’s role and establish it as the most powerful naval force in the region.
