Indian Navy to equip Next Generation Missile Vessels with indigenous Loitering Munitions

The Indian Navy is in talks with several Indian Private sector companies that have already developed loitering munition for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force so that it can also be incorporated into the upcoming six Next Generation Missile Vessels that will be built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).

It will be launched from confined pods to provide real-time intelligence, assess the situation of the target and make informed decisions before engaging the target.

These 6 Next Generation Missile Vessels will carry eight surface-to-surface/anti-ship missiles, a full-fledged surface-to-air missile (SAM) system with point defense capabilities which is probably the DRDO-developed VL-SRSAM and a 15 km (9.3 mi) range MR gun system. The ships will also have radar and electro-optically (EO) guided close-in weapon systems (CIWS) with 360-degree anti-missile defense.

The only radar system of these ships that will guide all the offensive systems onboard will be the same time and tested Israeli EL/M-2248 MF-STAR S-Band AESA radar giving these mini-frigates enormous range and capability to engage even bigger enemy warships.
