Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced that it has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the supply of strategic equipment for the defense sector worth Rs. 3,700 crores that are to be delivered over the next 12 years.

Several companies supplied components of the reactor for India’s first nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) INS Arihant while the steam generator was provided by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

So, it is being widely speculated that this letter of intent is linked with the supply of strategic equipment for India’s upcoming nuclear submarine projects like the bigger S5 class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) and 3-6 nuclear attacks submarines (SSN).
