Keel laying of the first warship of anti-submarine warfare shallow craft



Kochi: The keel laying of the first warship of anti-submarine warfare shallow craft (ASW SWC) project – BY 523, Mahe – which is being constructed under by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi, was undertaken on Tuesday.
Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmuk, the Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition laid the keel of the warship.
The ceremony took place in presence of Madhu S Nair, CMD, CSL, Commodore V Ganapathy, WPS (Kochi), CSL, Directors and other senior officials of CSL and Indian Navy.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Admiral Deshmukh, appreciated the CSL’s efforts in achieving the milestone despite COVID constraints and resultant lockdowns.
He called it a “noteworthy achievement” by the shipyard and commended professionalism displayed by all, an official statement read.
He further highlighted that construction of these vessels is a major boost for the ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ and India’s ‘Make in India’ commitment.
The Chief Guest indicated that keel laying is a major milestone activity in the ship-building process and paves way for amalgamation of various blocks towards fully constructed ship.
