New Delhi: After a spate of terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, including the fatal shooting of a bus transporting pilgrims to a temple in Reasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the deployment of the “full spectrum” of Indian counter-terror capabilities.

The PM chaired a review meeting of the situation in the state on Wednesday with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and other senior officials where he was apprised of the ongoing counter-terror efforts.

Sources said some of the attacks seemed to have been carried out by terrorists who have freshly infiltrated from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and tasked to take on easy targets in the Hindu-dominated Jammu region. Armed forces on the border are on alert to thwart infiltration attempts and take down terrorists operating in the hinterland.

“PM chaired a review of the situation in J&K with the NSA and other officials. The PM was given a full overview of the security related situation in J&K. The PM asked them to deploy the full spectrum of our counter terror capabilities,” sources said.

The PM also spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the deployment of security forces for counter terror operations and had a word with J&K LG Manoj Sinha to take stock of the situation in the state.

In the past week, terrorists have struck a bus carrying pilgrims from a temple in Katra, leading to nine civilian casualties, including a two-year old child. They also fired upon joint search parties and injured a civilian in a border village after he raised an alarm on spotting them.Security forces have a number of capabilities to take on infiltrators. These range from employing intelligence sources to track down terror groups to operating along the border with Pakistan to neutralise launch pads that are used to push through terrorists. India has also carried out surgical pre-emptive operations across the border to target training camps and housing where terrorists are known to be gathered.
