The Indian Army has a requirement of 814 Mounted Gun Systems and it was accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AON) by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) in September 2011. RFI states that the 155 mm/ 52 Calibre Mounted Gun System should be eligible for deployment in plains, mountains, high altitude areas, semi-desert, and desert terrain along the Northern and Western Borders of the country for the execution of Artillery tasks.

Indian Army has already made it clear that the system must come with at least 40-50% indigenous content in which Kalyani Groups ÁTAGS-Mounted Gun System, Danush Mounted Gun System by Gun Carriage Factory and Nexter Mounted Gun system by French firm Nexter and India‘s Larson and Tobro are the top contenders.
