DRDO plans to incorporate SAAW into a Mother Missile For Enhanced Multiple Precision Strikes
DRDO is planning to incorporate the Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) into a Mother Missile known as the smart weapon multi-carrier which will unleash multiple SAAW projectiles to selectively neutralize enemy targets, this innovative concept will enhance the range of the SAAW missile from the existing 100 kilometers to nearly 200 kilometers.
The DRDO is developing a seeker technology necessary for the integration of the SAAW into the Mother Missile concept and the seeker will ensure independent motion for each miniaturized missile thus enabling them to operate autonomously regardless of the mother missiles movements.
The mother missile can be manufactured at a lower cost making it feasible to utilize SAAW missile for engaging non-priority targets while air-to-surface weapons will be reserved for high value targets.
