The Eastern Air Command (EAC) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to demonstrate its readiness and capabilities during its annual command-level exercise, Ex Poorvi Akash, which is scheduled to take place from 30th October to 5th November. This year’s exercise holds special significance as it marks the first-time deployment of the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas in the eastern sector of India.
Ex Poorvi Akash is a comprehensive exercise that showcases the capabilities and readiness of the Eastern Air Command. The primary objective of this exercise is to demonstrate the application of air power in all its roles. This includes offensive and defensive operations, aerial reconnaissance, and rapid response to various threats, all of which will be conducted both by day and night, highlighting the IAF’s ability to operate in diverse conditions.
One of the standout features of Ex Poorvi Akash is the incorporation of joint operations with the Eastern Command (EC) of the Indian Army. These joint operations will take place in the challenging mountainous terrain of the eastern sector. This aspect of the exercise underlines the synergy between the IAF and the Indian Army, emphasizing their joint preparedness in addressing potential threats in difficult geographical areas.
The deployment of the LCA Tejas is a significant highlight of Ex Poorvi Akash. This marks a historic moment as the Tejas, a homegrown fighter aircraft, is participating in an exercise in the eastern sector for the first time. The Tejas is a light combat aircraft known for its agility and advanced avionics. Its participation not only showcases the capabilities of this indigenous fighter but also underscores the IAF’s commitment to bolstering its fleet with homegrown technology.
