In a recent rendezvous between India and Germany in Berlin, denoted as the High Defence Committee (HDC) meeting, a notable stride was taken in their bilateral defense collaboration. Within this discourse, representatives from the German conglomerate Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) introduced a proposition for India’s Mounted Gun System (MGS) solicitation.
Central to KMW’s submission is the AGM Iveco 8×8, an artillery system fashioned upon an 8×8 wheeled framework. This system exhibits numerous attributes tailored to the distinct requisites of the Indian Army:
Knowledge Transfer (KT): KMW proffers the transmission of expertise to India for the construction and upkeep of the AGM Iveco 8×8.
Augmented Resilience: The AGM Iveco 8×8 prioritizes crew safeguarding, furnishing enhanced fortification against landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and ballistic menaces. This concurs with India’s emphasis on outfitting its military with apparatus that underscores crew safety in contemporary combat scenarios.
Potency and Versatility: The apparatus amalgamates a validated NATO-JBMoU 155mm/L52 primary cannon with an unmanned Automated Gun Module (AGM). This distinctive amalgamation confers potent artillery capabilities with a firing span of up to 54 km, encompassing a comprehensive 360° azimuth. Additionally, the system maintains a broad array of elevation and charge alternatives, bestowing operational adaptability.
Enhanced Crew Defense: The AGM Iveco 8×8 integrates a segregated crew chamber and operator posts. This blueprint amplifies crew defense while conserving the artillery prowess of the system, deriving inspiration from the PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer.
India’s Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has already conceived the ATAGS MGS predicated on Tatra 8×8, and the recent collaborative endeavor between Adani and Elbit intends to present its ATMOS, a 155mm/52 caliber truck-mounted howitzer.
