GRSE to launch 4th Survey Vessel (Large) and 3rd ASWSWC, will also hold Keel laying ceremony of the 7th ASWSWC
Indian Navy has planned to build 16 ASW-SWC. CSL & GRSE had signed the contract for the construction and supply of ASW-SWCs in April 2019, with each ship builders constructing 8 ASW-SWC.
At present, Cochin Shipyard Limited is constructing 3 warships. GRSE has launched 2 warship and constructing 3 warships.
Next week is going to be huge for GRSE as the shipbuilder has planned to launch 4th Survey Vessel (Large)-Yard 3028, 3rd ASW-SWC- Yard 3030 & will lay keel for 7th ASW-SWC Yard No. 3032.
Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Watercrafts (ASW-SWC)
The ASW-SWC is equipped with sophisticated sonar equipment, including a hull-mounted sonar (HMS) and towed low-frequency variable-depth sonar (LFVDS) for detecting and intercepting hostile submarines.
These vessels are not only capable of detecting submarines, but they can also detect mines laid by submarines and midget submarines.
In addition, it has capability to interdict and destroy subsurface targets in coastal waters. These ships can also perform search and rescue operations during both day and night in coastal areas, defend intruding aircraft, and lay mines on the seabed.
Specifications
Each ship has a deep displacement of 750 tons, length of 77.6m and width of 10.5m. The vessel will have a maximum speed of 25 knots (46 km/h) and range of 1,800 nautical miles (3,300 km) at 14 knots (26 km/h).
The vessels will be armed with 1 x RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launcher, 6 × Lightweight ASW Torpedo and Anti-submarine mines (launched from mine-laying rails). It also features a 30mm naval gun and two 12.7 mm M2 Stabilized Remote Controlled Gun.
GRSE Survey Vessel (Large)
The GRSE-class survey vessels are a series of four survey vessels planned to be built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata for the Indian Navy. The order value for these four vessels is Rs. 2435.15 crore.
The vessels are equipped with highly advanced state-of-the-art hydrographic equipment & sensors including a Hello Hanger to accommodate one Advanced Light Helicopter. With the capability to carry four Survey Motorboats and an integral helicopter these ships can undertake full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys of Ports and navigational channels. This help in the mapping and determination of navigational channels/routes. In addition, the vessels can undertake surveys of maritime limits up to exclusive economic zone (EEZ). These vessels are deployed for collection of oceanographic and geophysical data for defence applications.
4th Survey Vessel launch
The GRSE has already launched three out of four survey vessels. The fourth one is going to be launched next week. These vessels are built by GRSE in collaboration with L&T. The Survey Vessel is signing example of Make-In-India with 80% indigenous content by cost.
These modern, indigenously developed 110-metre long and 16-metres wide vessels have a displacement of nearly 3,400 tonnes and can attain a top speed of 18 knots with an endurance of 6,500 nautical miles.
The ship can be fitted with a CRN 91 naval gun. The Close Range Naval-91 is a naval version of the Medak 30mm automatic gun. With a range of 4km, the gun has a rate of fire of 200-300 rounds per minute.
