Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has announced that it will launch the INS Dunagiri on 15th July which is the second Frigate of the Project-17A.

The P-17A Frigates are built with extensive use of low observability technologies including new radar-absorbing coatings, composite materials, faceted shaped superstructures and will be armed with a 127 millimeters main gun, two AK-630 Anti-Aircraft Systems, two torpedo tubes, Universal Launchers for 8 BrahMos Supersonic Anti Ship Cruise Missiles and 32 Barak-8 Surface-to-Air missiles as its main armament.

The ship will also feature Israeli EL/M-2248 Multi-Function Surveillance, Track And Guidance Radar (MF-STAR) S-band AESA radar, which is a multi-function, phased-array radar system featuring an azimuth of 360o, with the capability to track both aerial and surface targets – at a range of over 450 km (280 mi).

Apart from it, the class also features the Indra LTR-25 ‘Lanza’ surface-search radar – as its secondary radar suite. The LTR-25 is a solid-state, three-dimensional (3D), long-range radar capable of operating in a dense electronic environment and features a range of over 250 nmi (460 km; 290 mi), with the capability to track various aerial targets – including fighter aircraft and ballistic missiles.

The frigates are also equipped with an advanced combat management system – “CMS-17A”, equipped with sophisticated data links for higher interoperability among other vessels.
