The Indian Air Force (IAF) is making significant strides in expanding its global footprint to safeguard strategic interests by deploying officers as Additional Defence Attaches in Armenia, Spain, and Ivory Coast, according to Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, the Chief of the IAF. This move is indicative of India’s commitment to bolstering its presence on the world stage and strengthening defense diplomacy.

In addition to these overseas postings, the IAF will also station a Liaison Officer at the American Pacific Air Command. This development is in line with an agreement between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden, reached earlier this year, which entails the posting of three defense liaison officers under US military command.

Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari also provided an update on the establishment of the Weapons System Branch, a significant initiative aimed at managing the growing inventory resulting from the modernization efforts of the Indian Air Force. He shared, “We’ve received government sanction for establishing this branch entirely. The AFCAT exam was conducted a few weeks ago for the selection of candidates to join this branch… The first batch of approximately 33 officer cadets will join the academy at the beginning of next year and will get commissioned by the end of next year as weapon system branch officers.”

These announcements were made during the 43rd annual day of the Air Force Association, where Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari served as the chief guest. The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the IAF’s accomplishments over the past year and outline future plans to enhance its capabilities.

The President of the Air Force Association, former Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, emphasized the importance of maintaining a non-political stance in these politically charged times. He underscored the significance of addressing issues through appropriate channels, ensuring that what is just and warranted receives due attention and action.

The expansion of the IAF’s global presence through the deployment of Additional Defence Attaches and Liaison Officers signifies India’s commitment to enhancing its defense diplomacy and strategic partnerships on the international stage, reinforcing its role as a responsible global player in the realm of security and defense.
