The media, intelligence agenies, and political establishments in Pakistan and India are abuzz with speculations that fugitive terrorist Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, has been “poisoned and critical” at a hospital in Karachi, just a few days before his 68th birthday on December 26. The initial buzz began in Mumbai on Sunday evening, but police and intelligence circles denied any such thing, though they claimed that all such claims emerging from neighbouring country are constantly monitored.
Pakistani media appeared to take notice of the story early on Monday morning. Posts on social media purportedly said that Facebook, X, and other websites were unavailable due to Kaskar’s serious health. On Sunday, claims surfaced that he was reportedly fighting for his life in a Karachi hospital.Up until now, Mumbai and New Delhi police and intelligence officials have remained silent about the matter, stating that while there are several reports of this kind that come up on a daily basis, the most are false alarms. Being a wanted terrorist in this country, India seeks to capture Kaskar for his involvement in numerous crimes, including drug trafficking, terrorism, and other crimes, both in Mumbai and other places.”
The most serious charges for which India is looking for him include the March 12, 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, which took 267 lives, far more than the 166 killed in the November 26, 2008 terror attacks on the country’s commercial city.
According to what his brothers who were caught told the Maharashtra Police, it was confirmed about seven years ago that Dawood lived in Karachi permanently, in a luxurious bungalow in the high-class Sadar suburb, and was always under high security. But for the last three years, he had been depressed since his only son and third child, Moin Nawaz (37), chose to live a spiritual life and become a maulana and preacher, casting doubt on his notorious father Dawood’s empire and legacy.
