India to announce $1.8 billion drone deal with the United States during PM Modi’s US visit
Apart from the multi-billion dollar agreement to manufacture General Electric’s F-414 jet engines in India, India is all set to announce a $1.8 billion deal to procure 18 MQ-9B predator drones from the United States during Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s U.S visit next week.
The 18 armed drones will be delivered to India within the next five years and a separate 800 crore rupees agreement to extend the lease of 2 MQ-9B drones operated by the Indian Navy will also be signed.
The US will also push Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet for the Indian Navy’s Multi-Role Carrier Borne Fighter (MRCBF) tender in which the Indian Navy has already expressed its preference towards French Dassault Rafale-M although the Indian Navy has revealed that both the aircraft performed well in demonstrations and they will be happy with both the aircraft.
