Indian Army To give more emphasis on Mounted and Self-propelled guns instead of Towed, after close monitoring Ukraine war

After closely analyzing the capability of Loitering Munitions to target artillery systems in the Ukraine war, the Indian Army is considering to adjust its requirement of Towed artillery gun systems and Mounted/Self Propelled artillery gun systems.

The Towed artillery systems are vulnerable as they are stationary and can pose occasional mobility challenges while self-propelled or mounted artillery systems have experienced comparatively lower losses due to this evolving nature of warfare.

As we all know that the requirement of the Indian Army for Self-propelled or Mounted gun systems were comparatively lower in its comprehensive artillery modernization plan, but with the changing dynamics of modern warfare, Indian Army has taken note of the weaknesses of towed guns and the advantages of Mounted or Self-propelled guns, and for that reason, Indian Army might place an order for an increased number of 155 millimeters by 39 caliber and 155 millimeters by 52 caliber Truck Mounted Artillery gun systems and also Self-propelled gun systems.

Bharat Forge subsidiary Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) has already built and showcased its own designed and manufactured 155mmX39caliber Mounted Gun System to the Indian Army, while the Army has already placed orders for DRDO developed 155mmX52 caliber ATAGS Mounted Gun System also manufactured by KSSL. While there are other offers too, like the OFB made 155mmX52caliber Dhanush gun Truck Mounted sytem and the L&T manufactured K9 Vajra-T as Self-propelled howitzer whose 2nd batch order for 100 more guns has already been pipeline.
