Indian Navy’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to get MF-STAR radar during guaranteed refit at Cochin Shipyard
In preparation for long endurance operations, the first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant is set to undergo a guaranteed refit at Cochin Shipyard that will ensure the carrier’s optimal performance and readiness for extended operational deployments.
Officials have said that the aircraft carrier will be equipped with the Israeli MF-STAR multi-function array radar by the end of 2023 which features long-range surveillance, tracking, and fire control capabilities.

Earlier many defense enthusiasts questioned the absence of MF-STAR radar on the warship as it is the main radar to guide every armament of the ship, especially the air defense systems onboard.
The inclusion of Israeli ELTA ELM-248 MF-STAR multi-function array radar is a big step towards enhancing the carrier’s operational capabilities. MF-STAR radar will increase the situational awareness and tracking of enemy aircraft and warships in the vicinity of the carrier.
