The P-72, a state-of-the-art assault rifle developed by SSS Defence, is gaining significant attention within the Indian defense sector. This domestically produced firearm, chambered in the widely-used 7.62x39mm caliber, presents an attractive option for India’s paramilitary forces.
One of the standout features of the P-72 is its select-fire capability, which allows the user to switch between semi-automatic mode for controlled single shots and full-automatic mode for rapid firing. The rifle employs a short-stroke piston system, celebrated for its dependability and minimal gas blowback, resulting in smoother performance and reduced fouling.
The accuracy of the P-72 is another highlight, with SSS Defence claiming the rifle can effectively hit targets up to 800 meters away. This makes it highly versatile, suitable for both close-quarters combat and longer-range engagements where cover fire is necessary.
Designed for practicality, the P-72 uses easily accessible 20 and 30 round detachable box magazines, making it adaptable for various combat scenarios. Additionally, the rifle is compatible with suppressors, offering the advantage of quieter operations when required.
Following successful internal trials, SSS Defence has presented the P-72 to multiple Indian paramilitary units. The company is now awaiting the outcomes of several tenders, with the hope that the P-72 will be adopted as the standard weapon for these forces.
The P-72 signifies a major advancement in India’s defense manufacturing prowess, combining power, precision, reliability, and specific features designed to meet the demands of paramilitary missions.
