The security forces on Friday claimed to have killed two militants in an encounter in Sopore area of Baramulla district in northern Kashmir.
A civilian and two armed forces personnel were also injured during the initial exchange of fire, however, all of them are said to be stable and under treatment at a hospital. On late Thursday evening, the army, police and paramilitary forces had started a cordon and search operation following a tip off regarding the presence of militants in Nowpora area of Sopore. “Terrorists fired at the joint team of police, 22 RR of the army and CRPF which then led to the encounter in the area. The encounter continued overnight and on Friday morning, we found two bodies at the spot. One of whom has been identified as Saifullah,”IGP V K Birdi told reporters here.

Police is ascertaining the identity of the other body and claimed to have found weapons and incriminating material from the encounter spot. “This operation was the result of the alertness of armed forces. We are committed to provide a safe environment during elections and after that as well. We are committed to reducing such incidents,” said Birdi.
