Tupolev Tu-160 lease should be a stopgap solution, India must develop its own Stealth Bombers for SFC

Amid the buzz of leasing or purchasing of Russian Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack ‘White Swan’ Long Ranges supersonic strategic bombers, experts opined that the leasing of Tu-160 strategic bomber by India’s Strategic Forces Command (SFC) for nuclear delivery should be an interim measure and India must develop a Medium-Range Stealth Bomber.

The Tupolev Tu-160 is currently the largest and fastest supersonic bomber in service and leasing the Tu-160 will play a crucial role in understanding the concept of operating long-range bombers and will also allow India to study those platforms for the indigenous development of Next Generation Hypersonic and Air-Launched Ballistic Missiles for long range targets like Beijing and Shanghai for nuclear attack mission.
