3 follow-on Kalvari class submarines for the Indian Navy in 6 years, says MDL

Following massive delays in the Project-75I submarine program, Mazagaon Dockyard Limited (MDL) and the Indian Navy are spearheading plans to acquire three more Kalvari-class (Scorpene) submarines for just over $3 billion.

Mazagaon Dockyard Limited (MDL) has claimed to the Navy that once contracted it will reduce the hull launch-to-sea trial period to just six years from an earlier period of 9 years on average per submarine.

The Indian Navy intends to obtain approval for three additional Kalvari-class submarines equipped with the DRDO Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system by the end of this year and the contract will be awarded by the mid of 2024 and the first submarine will start sea trials in late 2030. follow-on Kalvari class submarines follow-on Kalvari class submarines IgMp
