Project-75I submarine program : Indian Navy may require $8 billion to get 6 new advanced submarines

Amid the delay in Project-75I India is evaluating the German proposal for a Government-to-Government deal for the local production of 6 Next Generation Diesel Electric submarines.

It is estimated that the overall cost of P-75I to build 6 advanced submarines of 3,000 tons will be around $8 billion dollars which is a sharp rise from the 6 Scorpene (Kalvari) class submarines of 1,800 tons built under Project-75 at $3.75 billion dollars.

The German offer has no room for the integration of Indian systems like DRDO developed Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system meanwhile the South Korean KSS-III submarine offer  will have a slightly lower production cost of around $900 million dollars per unit with transfer of technology and might cost around $1 billion dollars per unit when manufactured locally in the country.
