The Kalyani Group, a renowned Indian defense contractor and a subsidiary of Bharat Forge, is extending its successful foray into the artillery guns sector to develop indigenous naval guns for the Indian Navy’s warships. This strategic move comes as part of the company’s commitment to enhancing the Indian Navy’s firepower and reducing the country’s dependency on foreign arms imports.

Kalyani Group’s Ambitious Naval Guns Development Project

Under the Make-I category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020, the Kalyani Group is currently engaged in the design and development of three indigenous naval guns. These guns are being specifically tailored to meet the Indian Navy’s unique operational requirements.

Transforming Expertise into Naval Domain

Building on their proven track record in the artillery guns sector, Kalyani Group officials have expressed their commitment to delivering world-class naval guns. These guns will be designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities and bolster its defense capabilities across a range of combat scenarios.

Key Naval Guns Under Development

  1. 127mm Gun: Designed for large warships, this gun will offer significant firepower and enhance the combat capabilities of Indian Navy’s larger vessels.
  2. 76mm Gun: Suited for medium-sized warships, this gun will provide a versatile weapon system, enhancing the operational flexibility of the Indian Navy.
  3. 30mm Gun: Intended for smaller warships, this gun will offer close-in defense capabilities, providing enhanced security and protection to the Indian Navy’s smaller vessels.

Supporting ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ Initiative

The Kalyani Group’s initiative to develop indigenous naval guns aligns with the Indian government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) initiative in the defense sector. By reducing reliance on imports and fostering technological self-sufficiency, India aims to strengthen its defense capabilities and enhance national security.

Enhancing Indian Navy’s Operational Capabilities

The development of indigenous naval guns by the Kalyani Group is expected to significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities. These guns will equip Indian Navy warships with advanced weapon systems, ensuring readiness and effectiveness in various combat scenarios.

Expertise and Experience

With a wealth of experience in designing and manufacturing artillery systems, the Kalyani Group is well-positioned to successfully develop naval guns that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability. Their expertise will play a crucial role in strengthening the Indian Navy’s defense capabilities and contributing to the country’s defense indigenization efforts.
