Another France vs US showdown !!! As France prepares for a Govt to Govt deal for Made in India Rafales, US ready to counter with F-35A offer
The Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force has said that the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the 114 MRFA program will be issued within the next three to four months, latest reports indicate that France is now trying to turn the MRFA tender into a Government-to-Government deal and the aim is to reduce delays and establish a second production line in India which would further boost the export potential of the Rafale jet to other markets and alleviate massive pressure on the French production line. IAF is also looking at reduced number of 90 jets and France is ready to offer 90 Rafales (For IAF) + 26 Rafale-M (for Indian Navy) = 116 Made in India Rafales together to India.
Interestingly, the US Administration is well aware of the French attempts to convert the MRFA tender into a Government-to-Government deal and in response, the US has started preparing a counter offer for its F-35A 5th Generation stealth fighter to India.
The US has already showcased its F-35A stealth fighter to Indian Air Force officials for the first time during the last Aero India edition this year, which prompted many think tanks to suggest Indian Defence officials to opt for the jet as India needs a 5th generation jet right now as neighbor China has already advanced in this field with the J-20 and under development J-35 5th generation stealth fighters and Pakistan is pursuing to get its hands on Turkish Kaan TFX and Chinese J-20 stealth jets, India must hurry up as it can not sit idly and watch neighbours overtake itself in 5th generation technology as our own AMCA is a distant dream right now.
