Pune: Today, Maharashtra Chief Minister, Shri Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, inaugurated the inaugural MSME-oriented Defence Expo in Pune. The three-day expo, hosted by the Maharashtra State Government, aims to showcase the capabilities of numerous Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), private companies, DRDO laboratories, and DPSU setups in the state. A significant number of students from colleges and schools were also invited to interact with participating agencies, with an estimated footfall close to one lakh on the first day.
In addition to MSMEs, major companies like Bharat Forge Kalyani Group, Mahindra Defence, TATA Advanced Systems, and government agencies like DRDO and HAL have participated in the expo. The three Armed Forces have also displayed various types of in-service weapons. DRDO, along with Kalyani Group BEML, showcased their 155mm/52 Calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) and its Mounted Gun System (MGS) variant mounted on a BEML heavy-duty truck. Alongside DRDO’s ATAGS Mounted Gun System, Kalyani Group also showcased its Multi-Terrain Artillery Gun (MArG) 155mm/39 calibre Mounted Gun System, also known as MArG 155-BR.
The MArG 155-BR, made in India, is the world’s only 155mm/39 calibre gun system mounted on a 4×4 high mobility vehicle (HMV). It defies conventional wisdom that nothing heavier than a 105mm gun could be mounted on a wheeled vehicle, as mounting a heavier gun was believed to render the vehicle unstable. The 155-BR is designed to operate across rugged mountainous terrain and is equipped with shoot-and-scoot capability, offering advanced technical performance and high integration.
