Chennai-based Startup Big Bang Boom secures Rs. 200 Crore Anti-Drone System contract from the Indian Air Force

Big Bang Boom Solutions Pvt Ltd (BBBS), headquartered in Chennai, has achieved a significant milestone by securing one of the largest contracts ever granted to an Indian startup. The company will supply its state-of-the-art anti-drone systems to the Indian Air Force and Army for a substantial sum exceeding Rs. 200 crore.

The winning system, named Vajra Sentinel, adopts a dual-pronged strategy to combat drone threats:

Soft Kill Technology: This employs jamming techniques to disrupt the drone’s control signal, effectively grounding it.

Hard Kill Technology: In response to more persistent threats, Vajra Sentinel can deploy interceptor drones to neutralize them.

The system’s operational range extends up to 10 kilometers, with hard kill capabilities engaging at a distance of 5-6 kilometers. Dr. Sivaraman, a representative from BBBS, underscores the system’s effectiveness against swarm drone attacks, an escalating concern in contemporary warfare.

Vajra Sentinel leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision algorithms within its core sensor system. This capability enables the system to precisely identify, classify, and locate incoming drones, ensuring swift and targeted countermeasures.

The system features a sophisticated decision-making matrix that autonomously determines the most appropriate response to a drone threat, whether it be jamming or other countermeasures. Additionally, BBBS emphasizes the use of passive Radio Frequency (RF) sensor technology, reducing false alarms. The entire sensor and jammer combination adhere to rigorous military standards, ensuring durability and reliability in challenging operational environments.

Vajra Sentinel is designed with scalability in mind. The system can be upgraded on demand with advanced technologies such as Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and kamikaze drones, ensuring its continued effectiveness against evolving drone threats.

This groundbreaking contract represents a significant achievement for both BBBS and India’s burgeoning defense startup ecosystem. The deployment of Vajra Sentinel will enhance India’s air defense capabilities and equip its armed forces with a potent countermeasure against drone threats.
